Owolaebom has started its Rocket Growth business successfully as a B2C distributor of agricultural products with its small staff

Owolaebom is a company that offers high-quality agricultural products at affordable prices, with its main honey brand named Dalara.

Founded in 2022, Owolaebom offers a variety of household goods including its main seller honey. The reason it started the business of selling products in the honey category is the bee farm run by the CEO’s family and the CEO’s and his family's concern with diabetes. "The biggest reason was that my family has run a bee farm in Uiryeong. And diabetes runs in my family. We have family members who have passed away from diabetes complications and still fight diabetes taking insulin and wearing a continuous glucose monitor. That is why we want to produce and distribute products that can help people like us who are fighting diabetes."

B2B distribution had disadvantages of low profit margins and difficulty building customer relationships.

The bee farm run by the family of Owolaebom CEO used to supply its honey products to the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) in bulk without its own distribution channels. This kind of sales method allows bulk sales but the profit margin of the producer is low as NACF handles wholesale and retail distribution. It also makes it hard for the manufacturer to build direct relationships with customers who consume its products.

As Owolaebom made its own brand, it chose Coupang Rocket Growth as its main channel to start B2C distribution.

Owolaebom decided to get out of its previous sales method and build its own distribution network. It gained confidence by selling its own brand’s honey products on crowd funding platforms such as Wadiz and Tumblebuck. "When we first sold our products as a test, customers loved it. And we were asked to sell them again by many customers."

When Owolaebom started B2C sales, it was a no-brainer to join Coupang. "Coupang is definitely a major sales channel for consumer goods."Shortly after starting its business with Coupang marketplace in June 2023, it chose to join Rocket Growth. "A seller told me how they grew their sales with Rocket Growth and said that Rocket Growth would be a trend. That got me excited, so I did some research on my own and joined Rocket Growth."

After onboarding Rocket Growth,Owolaebom chose the B2C model for its entire distribution channel.

Since itonboarded Rocket Growth, Owolaebom’s sales has been growing continuously to thepoint where its monthly sales this year are 10 times that of last year when itnewly joined RG. Owolaebom has now firmly established itself as a B2C company, not a B2B company.

"In the past, 99.9% of our sales were from NACF. Now, up to 90% are from Coupang."

RocketGrowth not only allowed higher product exposure but handled shipping/storage/CS parts on its behalf, which was actually a big help for Owolaebom, a small business with limited manpower.

"We spend a lot of time dealing with shipping  as we're a small, family business and have little experience selling  online.  So it's really helpful to have  RocketGrowth handle the shipping for us. It was arduous to individually pack  each item. Now, once we send items in bulk to the Rocket Growth warehouse via  Milkrun, Rocket Growth ships them individually to customers."

Starting with honey, Owolaebom plans to expand the categories of its products with RocketGrowth.

Owolaebom’s long history in the beekeeping industry has given the brand trust in the quality of its products. It has also gained experience in advertising and operations while running e-commerce business more than a year.  Now it is thinking about profit margin management and product expansion.

"We have invested heavily to stabilize the business to the point where we had periods of negative margins. Now, we plan to optimize our operations, including advertising, and create even greater sales growth by selling good agricultural products with Rocket Growth such as rice and miscellaneous grains from Hapcheon, where our headquarter is located."

The story of Owolaebom shows that even in the food category, where consumers have short purchase cycles, quality products combined with fast delivery can lead to explosive growth, and that new brands can gain a foothold in the market withRocket Growth.

"The  margin is really small for Food categories. and it is smaller for  agricultural products. Instead, if product quality is good, people buy it  again. I see the lady living in the apartment building 108 tried my product  and recommend it to her neighbors living in the building 101 and her  relatives. I would recommend Rocket Growth to any seller who is confident in  the quality of their products."
